Merry Christmas!

Days have grown shorter and snowflakes have started dancing around the shores of Lake Erie signaling one of my very favorite times of the year – Christmas! The window display is full of freshly baked presents under a brightly lit tree and all around the city the decorations are going up.

Heidi and I had a fairly eventful Fall and we have a lot to be thankful for as we approach 2018. We were able to take Louie to Nantucket Island in October and spend the better part of a week strolling through the cobblestone streets and eating amazing meals. We also had a chance to visit The Petticoat Row Bakery, which was a big inspiration for our bakery. It was good to see that through all the years and changes, that most of the things that made the quaint little Island Bakery amazing were alive and well.

I thought a lot about that (while chewing on some heavenly cookies) and how, in what seems like the blink of an eye, we have been around for six years. Just in that period a lot has changed. We have a new location, new team members, new neighbors, and a lot of new faces coming through the door to join those that have visited us for years. It’s funny how some of the neighborhood “kids” that came to see us are now graduating from College and the newlyweds whose cakes we made years ago are ordering birthday cakes for their children.

With all the growth and changes were always looking forward to what’s next, but we always come back to the idea and plan we had when we started – to create an amazing experience for every customer that walked through our door and be a place that our employees looked forward to working. On that cobblestone street in Nantucket with cookie crumbs down my shirt a lot of those feelings came back and for a little while Heidi and I were younger and bright eyed to bring a little of this place back home.

Bright Christmas decorations now light up to the drive to and back from work, but even in the cold dark I love this time of year. I love sitting by the Fire with Heidi and Louie watching Charlie Brown and Snoopy skate across a frozen pond, Emmett Otter preparing for his concert and Buddy the Elf spreading Christmas Cheer to NYC. Most of all I love spending time with family and friends, eating and drinking too much and laughing and smiling the whole time.

This is also the busiest time at the bakery with the heavily caffeinated Icing on the Lake Elves dancing from oven to decorating table at a frenzied pace, and I speak for everyone on this side of the counter when I say how grateful we are for all of you. Thank you so much for your support and being a part of our lives. From all of us at Icing on the Lake we wish you a Very Merry Christmas, a joyous Holiday Season and an amazing New Year.
